The Effect of Resolution on Scaling Relations and Concavity on Valley Networks on Mars
نویسنده
چکیده
Valley networks have been observed on Mars since the Viking orbiter took photos in 19761980. They are interpreted as an erosional record of a warmer, wetter Mars then what currently exists. Scaling relationships have been used to evaluate terrestrial streams and can be used on Mars. Results from these relationships can provide insight into the mechanisms that formed the valley networks. These relationships, when compared to earth data are consistent with immature, precipitation fed valley networks. The range of values calculated may change based on quality of data used. The Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA) created a DEM of the entire planet of Mars at 128/pixel per degree or 460-meter resolution. In this study, this resolution (460-meter) is compared with the High-Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) derived DEM at 75 pixels/degree or 150-meter resolution. The results show a difference in the scaling exponents but within an acceptable range. However, when comparing data collected at the same location, measurements are show to be statistically different.

Investigating the Effects of Social Networks on Family Relations from the Viewpoints of Teachers in 11th Region of Education Ministry
Today, the number of people using social networks is increasing. Meanwhile, the most important effect of these networks is on the quality of family members' relationships because it is considered as a tool that can be very effective on the relationships of family members with each other. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of social networks on family relationship...
متن کاملMapping Valley Networks in the Noachian Terrain around Naktong Vallis, Mars: Topographic Control on Drainage Density
Introduction: Most of the cratered uplands of Mars are dissected by networks of branching valleys, whose evolutionary history is still controversial [e.g. 1, 2]. The valleys show branching patterns closely analogous to terrestrial fluvial valleys, which may indicate that the valleys were cut primarily by surface runoff after precipitation [2]. However, short, stubby tributaries and amphitheater...
متن کاملNew Data Reveal Mature, Integrated Drainage Systems on Mars Indicative of Past
Introduction: Valley network systems on Mars remain the most unequivocal evidence that water carved the surface of the planet in the distant past and the climate was different than today. Most of these systems date from the Noachian [1], the p eriod of heavy bombardment which is >3.7 Ga [2], although local or regional formation seems to have continued to more recent times [3]. The discovery of ...
متن کاملScaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters
We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...
متن کاملGroundwater-controlled valley networks and the decline of surface runoff on early Mars
[1] Fluvial erosion on early Mars was dominated by valley networks created through a combination of groundwater processes and surface runoff. A reduced greenhouse effect due to CO2 loss, together with a declining geothermal heat flux, promoted the growth of a cryosphere and a Hesperian hydrologic regime dominated by outflow channel formation. We test the hypothesis that the transition from vall...
